Aldous's Coffee — Roast, Then Grind

The Servant of the Lake coffee puzzle has a right answer and a better one: green beans finish the scene, roasting and grinding earns the achievement.

Roast the beans on the stove first, then grind them. Green beans will get you through the morning. They will not get you the achievement.

This is the opening chore of Day 2 and the first of that day's several missable achievements.

The steps

  1. Collect the coffee beans.
  2. Put them on the stove and roast them. Do not skip straight to grinding.
  3. Grind the roasted beans.
  4. Serve.

The grind step is easy to lose track of, because roasting alone looks like the whole puzzle — the beans visibly change and it feels finished. It is not: the achievement wants roasted and ground.

The achievement

Serving Mr. Aldous his Favorite Coffee. The official in-game clue says it outright:

"Green Coffee isn't the tastiest. Roasted Coffee Beans are better."

Unlike most of the game's hidden achievements, this one is not asking you to fail on purpose — it is asking you to do the chore properly when the lazy version would also pass. Day 2 has several of both kinds; the ordered list is on the hidden achievements page.
