Light spoilers. This page names rooms, items and characters you meet, but keeps the story beats out of it.

Servant of the Lake is set in the early 18th century at the Vanderboom estate, decades before the events of Rusty Lake: Roots. You are hired as a servant for a single weekend — the family's annual reunion and feast — and the game never leaves the house.

The premise, plainly

The store description is unusually straight about what you are in for: solve puzzles, serve the family, and uncover their dark alchemical secrets. The three-day structure is a work roster, and the horror arrives through the chores rather than around them — you find out what this household is by being made to participate in its routines.

The servant framing is the design idea. You have no authority in the house and no agency over the story; what you have is a task list. Every piece of lore reaches you sideways, because nobody in the family is explaining anything to the help.

Where the series sits around it

This is Rusty Lake's nineteenth game and its eighth premium release, from the studio behind the Cube Escape series, The Past Within and Underground Blossom. The score is by Dutch composer Victor Butzelaar.

Playing the rest of the series first is not required. The estate, the family and the alchemy read cleanly on their own — the connections deepen what is there rather than gate it.

Spoiler note

These pages stay at light spoilers: they name the people you meet and the setting you meet them in, and stop short of what happens across the three days. The heavier material is quarantined on the "You've found him!" page, which is tagged accordingly.
