You spend the weekend serving a household rather than exploring one, so the cast is small and you meet almost all of it in the first day. Listed here by how much of your time each one takes.
Mr. Aldous
The centre of Day 1 and the person whose routine the game teaches you. You wake him, shave him — nicking his earlobe in the process — feed him porridge, and lead his morning exercises.
He returns across all three days: his coffee is the first task of Day 2, and by Day 3 you are treating a wound on his leg and pulling a fork out of his shoulder. That progression is the game's plot in miniature.
Alexandra
The bouquet on Day 1 is for her, the tea is for her, and the bath on Day 2 is hers. She is also on the receiving end of two hidden achievements: the goat-chewed bouquet and the green-powder matcha.
William
Introduced at the Day 1 reunion, where he swallows a lit cigar and sets his own mouth on fire — you put it out by clicking his teeth. On Day 2 you wake him, and tickle his face with a feather until he tells you to stop.
James
The infant. He gets the champagne if you want the Soothing the Baby achievement, and the Day 1 evening closes with a lullaby you have to click in an exact eight-step order. His basket is also where the randomised luggage code comes from — shake it and listen.
Rustie the cat
The orange cat, called Rusty in the official achievement clues. He appears in every day: milk in the hallway, tea leaves in the evening, the herb clue behind the green powder, and finally asleep on the maid's lap on Day 3 to be petted.
The staff
The maid hands you the sugar for the tea service and, by Day 3, is holding the cat. The coachman is the first person you meet — he holds one of the two tin cups and will not move until he is paid.
The animals
Beyond Rustie, the estate is full of creatures that exist to be interacted with wrongly:
- the horse — click it repeatedly, glasses and all, before the carrot
- the goat — feed it the bouquet
- the raven — trades a key for Aldous's earlobe
- the crow — appears at the attic window after enough rummaging
- the parrot — drinks the elixir on Day 3
- the mouse in the cellar wall, and the insect in the porridge bowl
Almost every animal in the house is attached to a hidden achievement. If you meet one and nothing happens, you have probably not clicked it enough times — see the hidden achievements page.
The family name
Everyone above with a surname is a Vanderboom, the same line Rusty Lake: Roots follows. See how it connects to Roots.
Still to be confirmed
We could not verify the following against more than one source, so we have left it out rather than guess. This page is updated as confirmations come in.
- Full names and family relationships beyond the surname Vanderboom — the game reveals these gradually and community documentation is a day old.
