Day 3 Walkthrough — Assisting with Alchemy

Every Day 3 step across all four blocks: the alchemy maze, the fish brooch, the chandelier rope, the fork, and where the 6294 cellar code actually belongs.

Last updated 2026-08-16

Light spoilers. This page names rooms, items and characters you meet, but keeps the story beats out of it.

Day 3 is the alchemy day, and it runs the full four blocks — morning, afternoon, evening and night. It was the thinnest-documented day in the community for the first few days after launch; most of it is now confirmed.

This page was corrected on 16 August. Several Day 3 details published here earlier came from a single early source and turned out to be wrong — the table leg is in the wrong room, the rope is the wrong rope, and the fish is not placed anywhere. Details in each section.

Morning — looking for the cat

Rustie has got himself stuck again. He turns up in the boiler first, and later ends up in the maid's arms.

Petting the Cat. Stroke him until he has had enough and jumps away.

Morning — assisting in alchemy

The alchemy maze. Nine directional inputs:

right, right, right, left, right, left, right, right, left

Two of the three guides that cover this call it a click sequence; a third describes it as navigating a maze from the centre to the exit. Same nine inputs either way, and no feedback until the last one lands. Write it down — the post-credits route asks for it again.

Animal Testing. You are asked to test the elixir of life. Give it to the parrot first.

Afternoon — the servants' room

Checking the Furniture (also reported as Unforeseen Maintenance). Click the table leg in the servants' room — the one the cat is hiding behind. There is a hidden compartment with a note.

Correction. This page previously said the kitchen table, second leg from the left. Two later sources both place it in the servants' room, so the earlier version was wrong.

Afternoon — preparing dinner

Seasoning the Soup. There is a fly on the cake table. Kill it with the knife and drop it into the soup. The achievement fires during the hallucination sequence that follows.

Evening — dressing for dinner

Three things happen here and they are easy to conflate.

The fish is a brooch, not a placement.

  1. Adjust the fish shadow so it falls on the rightmost second-floor window.
  2. Take the brooch from the picture frame beside William.
  3. Position William to match the pose in the dining room painting.
  4. Pin the brooch on him.

That unlocks Finishing Touch (also reported as Dressing up for Dinner).

Correction. This page previously described "placing a fish in the correct position" and marked it unverifiable. That was a misreading of a screenshot — there is no fish to place.

The cellar box. In the same block you adjust a box in the cellar to match a pattern. The pattern is a line drawing, reproduced from a document you unlock — and where two lines overlap, the drawn line is thicker. That is the whole trick, and it is why the screenshots looked unreadable.

Evening — serving dinner

Safety Test (also reported as Serving Dinner). Click the chandelier rope repeatedly, before dinner starts.

Correction. Previously given as "the rope at the upper left of the dining hall". It is the chandelier's rope.

Night — the departure

First Aid (also reported as The Departure). Once you have the fork, click Aldous's lower leg and use the fork to treat the wound. One guide describes it as extracting a bullet.

Correction. Previously written as pulling a fork out of his shoulder. It is the opposite — the fork is the instrument, not the injury.

Where the 6294 code actually belongs

6294 opens a box in the cellar, and it belongs to the post-credits route, not to ordinary Day 3 play. Inside is the telescope that finishes the last achievement.

Two of the three guides covering it place it in the cellar during the second pass; an early source filed it under Day 3, which is where this site originally put it. See the cabinet code page and the full post-credits route.

After the credits

Finishing Day 3 rolls the credits, and the last achievement starts there rather than ending there. Choose Continue, read the note, and follow the nine steps on the "You've found him!" page.

You will need the clock at 4:05, the Day 2 bathing tiles, the maze sequence above, the attic constellations, a line drawing, three bottles in order, and 6294.

Every fixed number in the game is on the all codes page.

Still to be confirmed

We could not verify the following against more than one source, so we have left it out rather than guess. This page is updated as confirmations come in.

  • The alchemy symbol formulas — one guide reports '2 left + 3 middle' and '4 right + 1 left' producing oil and acid, but describes them too loosely to follow.
  • Roughly six of the 49 achievements are still undocumented anywhere; about 43 are now accounted for.
